You Drink, You Drive, You Lose Enforcement Campaign Begins

Officers from the Lawrence Police Department are joining nearly 150 Kansas law enforcement agencies in the 2014 You Drink, You Drive, You Lose enforcement campaign now through Labor Day, September 1st.   Additional officers will patrol the streets, thanks to a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation, and will focus on identifying drivers who are impaired by alcohol or otherwise operating their vehicle in an unsafe manner.

According to statistics provided by the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas averages four persons injured every day and one person killed every three days in an alcohol related crash. Impaired drivers also potentially face up to one year in jail, suspension of their driving privileges, fines of up to $2500 and the mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device on their vehicle.

The Lawrence Police Department reminds motorists to designate a driver, buckle up, and do their part to help make the streets of Lawrence a safer place.
