Sobriety Checkpoint to Occur Friday

On Friday, March 17th, 2017, in a joint effort with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, and the University of Kansas Public Safety Office, the Lawrence Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city limits of Lawrence.  The goal of the checkpoint is to reduce the number of collisions that involve impaired drivers and to lower the injuries and deaths associated with these types of collisions.   By conducting a checkpoint, which is funded by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation, we will be able to increase the awareness of motorists regarding the dangers of impaired driving, deter those who may be impaired from driving, as well as detect and investigate DUI offenses at the checkpoint.

The Lawrence Police Department reminds you to designate a sober driver, buckle up, and help do your part to make our community a safer place.
