Lawrence Police Conduct Nighttime Seatbelt Enforcement

Officers from the Lawrence Police Department will be aggressively enforcing seatbelt laws as part of a Nighttime Seatbelt Enforcement Program, paid for through grant funds from the Kansas Department of Transportation.    Enforcement will primarily be conducted on weekend evenings as part of this grant.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas is one of 32 states, plus the District of Columbia, in which the law allows a vehicle to be stopped solely because front seat occupants or children are not properly restrained.   They also state 76 percent of occupants who died in nighttime motor vehicle crashes were unrestrained, as compared to 57 percent in daylight crashes.

The Lawrence Police Department reminds motorists to buckle up, designate a driver and do your part to help make Lawrence streets safer.
