Southwest Junior High SRO Jay Bialek

My name is Officer Jay Bialek and I am assigned as the School Resource Officer at Southwest Middle School.  My goal as an SRO is to provide a safe learning environment at Southwest as well as providing law related education and serving as an informal counselor to students.  I am also a resource to the staff and administration, as well as parents, and can assist with not only student issues, but other law related matters as well.  I truly believe in networking with the faculty and staff to solve problems and address issues where there are student and/or parent concerns.

I grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School, before earning an Environmental Science degree from The University of Kansas in 2003.  I joined the Lawrence Police Department in 1991.  I have served in a variety of positions within the department to include patrol, investigations, information technology, field training officer, and most recently as Southwest’s SRO.  I am also an EMT and CPR instructor for the department.  I bring a lot of diversity, experience, and moreover a great deal of experience with children of all ages.  My time off is spent keeping busy with just about any outdoor activity, travel, exercising, and time with family.  I am also the assistant wrestling coach at Southwest and a member of the Lawrence-Douglas County Bicycle Advisory Committee.

I believe it is important for the SRO to spend time in the classroom educating and so I teach a variety of topics during the school year such as internet and social network safety, personal safety, drug and alcohol awareness, constitutional law, bullying prevention, and many other law related topics.

Lawrence is home to me and I am very passionate about the Lawrence community and the education and safety of our children.  Please feel free to stop by my office at Southwest or contact me by telephone if you have questions or concerns. I can be contacted at (785) 330-4839.

Be Safe,
